On December 6, the Consul General of Panama in Kobe, Alejandro de León, met with the directors of the Maritime Division of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan. During the meeting, both parties agreed on the importance of continuing to work together for a safe, sustainable maritime industry aligned with the standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The meeting addressed key issues such as:
- The participation of women in the maritime industry, promoting inclusion and empowerment in a traditionally male sector.
- IMO guidelines for a more sustainable, safe and green maritime industry, with emphasis on reducing emissions and protecting the marine environment.
- Improving services and care for seafarers, recognizing their essential work for the proper functioning of the industry.
- Incentives for new fleets in the Panamanian registry, seeking to strengthen the competitiveness and modernization of the fleet registered under the Panamanian flag.
Present from MLIT were Usui Narioki, General Manager, Capt. Tomonori Okamura, General Manager, and Shigeru Kurosawa, Director.
The Consul General was accompanied by Any Lam Chong, Second Secretary of the Diplomatic and Consular Career.
This meeting strengthens bilateral cooperation in the maritime field and underscores the commitment of both countries to work towards a more modern, inclusive and environmentally friendly maritime industry.
