A Century of Naval Registration Excellence and Its Impact on Global Navigation
Panama's Maritime Legacy
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Panama and its people we would like to thank you for visiting our maritime section.
Since its creation in 1917, the Panama Ship registry is the oldest and most reliable open registry in the world. Our vessel registration system is fully based on a national law enacted by the Government of Panama, which is one of the largest contributors to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In addition to the foregoing, our Maritime Administration currently has 14 International maritime offices around the world (including one at Imabari city, Japan) which are also supervised and assisted by our system of Merchant Marine Consulates. This comprehensive system permits an immediate communication with our clients for purpose of assisting any of our registered vessels, a task which our Maritime Administration undertakes as a matter of National interest.
