Event for women in the maritime industry

For the second year in a row, the Consulate General of the Republic of Panama and the Maritime office at Imabari organized a specialized event for women in the maritime industry. This time we had more participants!

This was the last official act for our Consul General Almengor as a representative of Panama. With this meeting our offices in western Japan tried to raise awareness in regards to the Goal No 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals that deals with gender equality by empowering women and girls for a more equitable society.

We had the presence of Ms. Yukie Teo from Aderco who gave the participants a presentation about the route to the empowerment of women in the maritime industry. In addition Ms. Kumi Sakabe of Class NK delivered a speech about her experience as a woman in the industry.

Likewise, Ing Yazim Valles de Segumar Imabari gave a few words to the attendees, while Miss Any Lam Chong was in charge of leading a toast in honor of Women’s Day in the maritime industry.

Consul General Almengor closed the meeting by expressing his appreciation to the attendees and their companies. He also explained how Panama has advanced on this goal although there is still a lot to do for our country.

With this type of meeting, Panama and its merchant marine registry also want to contribute and promote the discussion of the empowerment of women in the maritime industry of Japan and the world.

Our country will continue to create alliances with the maritime community of Western Japan to achieve common goals for the benefit of the world.
